Inconsistent attendance at scheduled appointments interferes with the effectiveness of counseling, and also limits University Counseling Service’s ability to help the greatest number of students. We have developed the following internal policies in an effort to optimize success in therapy:
Failure to attend an appointment without first canceling or rescheduling constitutes a no-show. Frequent rescheduling, canceling and no-showing for appointments will result in being referred to our Director or Case Manager to discuss treatment options.
Maximal therapy effectiveness requires attendance for the full scheduled appointment time. Arriving late for appointments potentially decreases therapy progress and demonstrates lack of respect for the counselor’s time. Thus, counselors may set limits for late appointment arrivals as follows: For 50 minute appointments, the student may be asked to reschedule if they are more than 15 minutes late to check in at the front desk. For 30 minute appointments, the student may be asked to reschedule if they are more than 5 minutes late to check in at the front desk.
